Opera singer Maria Callas
Plot
Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, lives her final days in 1970s Paris as she confronts her identity and life… Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Laraine discuss how they connected to the heartbreaking true story of the world-famous woman. The third and final film in Pablo Laraine’s “Lady in High Heels” female-led biographical trilogy following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).
I have a snobbish temper
Maria Callas: Book a table at a café where the waiters know who I am. Close-up: Why do we need the Venice Film Festival? (2024).
The little bits of backstory were refreshing, but very rare
Otello Act 4: ‘Ave Maria’ (Desdemona) Performer: Maria Callas, Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire Conductor: Nicola Rescigno Written by: Giuseppe Verdi, Arrigo Boito Warner Classics Edition, (p) 1964 Parlophone Records20 Remasterlo Records201 Limited release courtesy of Warner Music Group Germany Holding GmbH, a Warner Music Group company. I really don’t understand why the director decided to focus 90% of the film on the last week of the main character’s life. Jolie, as Maria Callas, is stony-faced, apathetic and brooding, and spends most of her screen time wandering around Paris.
Some positives:> I liked the music selection
I downloaded the album and listened to all the songs several times.> The costumes and scenery are quite nice.> The butler and maid were the most appealing characters on screen. Overall, though, it was a very disappointing film. No need to waste time scrolling endlessly — here’s the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
