My first review!
I read the Hughes trilogy years ago and loved the books immensely. When I was randomly browsing IMDB and found SILO, I was immediately intrigued. I see some slightly conflicting opinions, and I can relate to some of them. Here’s my take on the first season. First of all, I love dystopian literature!
It is not an adaptation in the sense that it follows the story
The dystopian genre offers a unique psychological insight into human nature in hypothetical scenarios. My passion for the trilogy was strengthened because Hughes was able to develop Orwellian ideas into a hypothetical that is relevant to the modern world. Imagining the development of the human psyche in dystopian scenarios is a challenging task. I think Hughes has done a wonderful job, SILO captures most of these aspects in a refreshing way. It is based on the books, but it naturally has to adapt to the viewers in a fast-paced world.
The acting is phenomenal for the main characters
However, the series manages to capture the atmosphere of a society living in a silo. Unlike the superficial storytelling of other shows, «SILO» has a wonderful mix of character development and focus on atmosphere. The only problem I have with the show is the lack of atmospheric development. They spend a lot of screen time chasing and capturing Juliette. They lack the atmospheric development of the silo as a society.
Of course, it has to attract a receptive audience
